Nymphoplasty

.........................................        .What is Labiaplasty or Nymphoplasty?...................................................

  • A surgical intervention designed to shorten the excess of skin of the small lips (or Labia Minora).

  • It is a reduction of the inner Labia or labia minora.

..................................................Why women need Labiaplasty or Nymphoplasty?...................................

  • Excess skin folds at the opening of the vagina (labia) can be distressing.

  • Asymmetrical of large labia minora, may cause difficulties during sports, pain during intercourse or discomfort during dressing.

  • Improvement of the appearance (aesthetics) as well as the sexual health (functional).

.......................................     .When the need of Labiaplasty is presented?..................................................

The Hypertrophy of the labia minora can be congenital (since birth), or can occur during puberty or after delivery.

...............................................What are the techniques of Labiaplasty?......................................................

There are 2 major techniques: Wedge resection or Trim (amputation) resection.

........................................................    .Wedge resection: Pros and Cons.........................................................

Consists of a V-shaped or Y-shaped incision, then sewn together, making a more natural shape and definition, depending on the tissue that should be removed and its proximity from clitoris.

............................Pros..............................

............................Cons.............................

1- Short scar

1- Treat only the third (1/3) of the edges of Labia minora, that might remain dark.

2- Preserve the labial sensitive edges intact.

2- Color discrepancy between the upper and the lower part of the edges

3- Clitoral hood remains untouched, but can be reduced in the same operation.

3- Possible tension on the stitches of the repair area that tightens the entry of the vagina.

4- Very rarely, the incision or wound may open during the healing process.

..................................................            Trim resection: Pros and Cons......            ...........................................

Consists of the labia minora edge excision or full amputation. This will result in a pinker labial edges for the one who dislikes their thick, darkly pigmented or rough edges.

........................Pros......................

...................Cons

1- Allow a traight-line reduction of all the edges of the Labia minora.

1- Nerve damage or loss of sensitivity is possible.

2- It removes the dark hyper-pigmented edges showing the internal pink labial tissue.

2- Less natural look since all edges are cut.

3- It allows more to have the “Barbie”  shape.

3- Rarely can be associated to pain with sexual intercourse.

4- Lower risk of complications.

4- Overresection or excess of skin trimming.

5- It is a simpler technique of labia minora reduction.

5- Clitoral hood is not addressed and unhooding is not possible.

                                                                       Possible complications

  • With both techniques, some complications with wedge resection may occur such as: bleeding, hematoma, scar contracture.
  • A revision visit of the physician might be required for minor problems.

                                                                        What better technique

There is no better technique, because each woman has a different shape that requires a customized resection, depending on the required final shape and size that she desires, and the anatomy of her labia.

This issue is discussed with the patient before the operation in the consultation, to show her the number of solutions that can be presented. After acknowledging the best solution that might fit her, and the alternative ones, she makes the decision of the solution she wants us to provide.

..............................................................................Operations conditions

  • The operation is done in less than one hour.
  • It can be performed under local anaesthesia, general anaesthesia or conscious light sedation.
  • It is a painless procedure.
  • The patient leaves the clinic the same day.

                                                                                    Post-operative care

  • You might experience swelling, pain and blemish at the beginning of the surgery, depending on your healing process.
  • You will be asked to apply a cold press for swelling and pain.
  • We may request a follow up visit upon your healing process.
  • An ointment may be prescribed.
  • No shower for 24 hours.
  • No exercising for the next 3 weeks.
  • No sexual intercourse for almost a month.

                                                                                     Cost of Labiaplasty

The prices range from $800 to $3,000, depending on the extent of the surgery. It depends if you are adjusting only the labia minora or shortening your labia minora, de-puffing your labia majora and/or making a clitoral hood adjustment.
